Company Profile: Located in the heart of Bukit Timah
is a Greek restaurant - a rarity in
Singapore . Opened in 1998 and changing a few hands since,
it is now managed by
Mr Elgin Lim who is also the chef, after being trained under
the wings of the previous Greek owners.
A
display of picturesque frames of Greek scenary,
traditional Greek vases and painted plates adorning
the shelves, brings on an authentic Greek charm.
Hues of white and yellow spruce up the simple and
neat ambience akin to that of a Greek home; making
it an appropriate venue for an intimate dinner with
families and loved ones.
The menu consists of a wide variety of Greek dishes
to suit different palates. A common starter would be
the garlic pita bread accompanied by the dips of
your choice. A refreshing and yet, tasty blend will
be Tzatziki ($8), made of yoghurt, garlic, and
cucumbers. Modified to suit the local taste bud is
the Tonnosalata ($7), a Greek style tuna salad dip
mixed with spiced to camouflage the overpowering
tuna taste. This will be the ideal dish for the
health-conscious for some others may find it too
bland. Both dips are served with a Greek olive in
the centre and it would definitely appeal to those
who enjoy olives or linger joyously on the sour
taste of the olive.
If
you enjoy salads then Choriatiki salata ($15), a
traditional Greek village salad consisting of
tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, bell peppers, Greek
olives, feta cheese and anchovies is a must have.
The feta cheese balances out the overwhelming
rawness of the onion resulting in a pleasing taste
to the palates. Choose from a choice of balsamic
vinegar or olive oil dressing. A famous main course
for the Greek will be the lasagna-style Moussaka
($21.50), consisting of an assortment of eggplants,
potatoes, minced lamb and topped with a layer of
cream which evens out the sauteed minced lamb makes
a great dish those with a hearty appetite.
An
alternative lamb dish will be the Arni Youvetsi
($21.50), cooked in tomato, onions and special herbs
served with orzo pasta. The lamb is so well
marinated that on first bite, the juice just oozes
out. Accompanied with the orzon pasta, one can
literally finish the dish alone without feeling too
congested. Those preferring a set course can opt for
the set dinner ($29.50 - $32.50) which comes with a
starter – dip and salad, main course and ending with
an ice-cream as dessert.
