Incorporated in 1981, Singapore Institute of Building
Limited (SIBL) is the professional institute in Singapore
for individuals engaged in building practice in managerial,
technical or administrative capacities, encompassing the
development, construction and maintenance of buildings as
well as those engaged in academic research and teaching.
Today,
SIBL’s mission is to promote the science and
practices of Building and Facilities Management
based on current developments in technology. The
Institute also upholds the competency and standards
of the Building and Facilities Management
professions, while promoting and advancing the
status and interests of professional builders and
facilities managers through training, education and
research as well as via membership representation in
various committees such as the Construction Industry
Joint Committee (CIJC).
The advancement of education and research in
Building remains one of the key thrusts of SIBL’s
efforts. To this end, the Institute conducts
examinations of proficiency in the science and
practice of Building and issues certificates to
members in recognition of their expertise in their
respective fields.
In securing the unanimity of action for all its
members, SIBL actively promotes and encourages
uniformity in the practices of the building and
engineering construction industry, upholding just
and honourable practices in the conduct of
businesses while prohibiting and penalising
malpractices.
The Institute organises regular business networking
events such as social events and talks, as well as
site visits to unusual building projects and study
tours featuring the latest industry developments.
SIBL also runs the continuing professional
development programme comprising courses, workshops
and seminars for industry professionals, thus
supporting them in maintaining their professional
recognition.
SIBL is a committee member of the CIJC and a
corporate member of Singapore Green Building
Council. The former includes Association of
Consulting Engineers Singapore (ACES), The
Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), Real
Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore (REDAS),
The Singapore Contractors Association Limited (SCAL),
Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), Singapore
Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) and
Society of Project Managers (SPM)
