Established in
2002 in Telok Gong, Port Klang, Malaysia, Champ Fungi was
founded by Teun Kampen and his wife Cindy Roe who recognized
that there was an untapped market for mushrooms, when they
found it challenging to source for a quality supply of fresh
mushrooms, at a good value, in the local supermarkets.
The duo
started to conduct extensive market research and
identified the right technological intervention that
can assist in initiating the commercialized
production of mushrooms in Malaysia. The farm was
built to originally supply fresh Button, Swiss Brown
and Portabello mushrooms to Malaysian and Singapore
market,
Now Champ Fungi’s farm has tapped the growing sea
market with the focus on Malaysia and Singapore
market for the past 5 years producing a diverse
assortment of mushrooms. The company uses only the
highest quality of raw materials such as compost and
peat moss (imported from Holland). This coupled with
proper environmentally-controlled conditions &
systems and the Dutch state-of-the-art equipment
allows Champ Fungi to enhance the already advanced
growing techniques, ensuring consistency and
superior mushroom quality.
Champ’s succulent mushrooms are sold to a large
clientele of fresh market distributors, wholesalers
for the hospitality market as well as to direct
retailers. Champ Fungi is now able to deliver
organic mushrooms daily due to their improved
production cycle and systems.
One unique specialty of Champ Fungi is its focus on
product knowledge within the organization. To
maintain this focus, they hire an expert in each
product line to serve and support their growing
clientele.
Winning customer trust and to be regarded as the
market leader in mushroom production and supply is
part of Champ Fungi’s vision. In pursuit of this
vision, Champ’s management has gone on to being
certified to abide by “Good Agricultural Practice”
by the Agricultural Dept. The firm has also passed
the audit to be HACCP compliant by Lloyd’s Register.
To increase the choice of mushrooms to the
ever-increasing appetite of the middle-class, Champ
Fungi is working with a Korean partner in offering 8
different Korean mushrooms, bringing the total to 20
varieties, including the new Oyster mushrooms.
Champ Fungi is poised to keep growing and enhancing
its systems and its produce to meet the ever
changing needs of the consumer market.
