was established in June 2008 by the Ministry of National
Development and the Ministry of the Environment and Water
Resources of Singapore.
The
Centre brings together Singapore's expertise on
sustainable urban development across public and
private sectors. It aims to distil and develop
Singapore's experience in good governance,
integrated urban planning, effective resource
management, affordable quality housing, efficient
transport management and environmental
sustainability.
Besides being a key repository of Singapore's
expertise in urban management, the Centre will
facilitate the sharing of best practices and
learning among cities in the region and globally
through conferences, forums, seminars and workshops.
Working with other international and local think
tanks and research institutions, the CLC will also
undertake policy-oriented research that is timely,
practical and relevant.
Thought Leadership
The CLC organises and co-hosts regular conferences,
workshops and seminars to promote better
understanding of policy issues and dilemmas
confronting cities, as well as to bring together
policy-makers, experts and the industry to explore
practical solutions.
International Linkages
The CLC develops strategic partnerships with key
regional and international organisations, cities and
similar centres of excellence to promote networking,
training and research.
Policy & Research
The CLC undertakes policy-relevant research in
collaboration with local and overseas institutions,
think tanks, regional and international
organisations in areas such as urban planning and
management, city competitiveness, sustainable
development, social integration and liveability.
Programmes & Training
The CLC conducts flagship executive programmes for
local and overseas policy–makers, with an emphasis
on good governance and an integrated approach to
sustainable urban development.

STRATEGIC LIVEABILITY FRAMEWORK
The Centre's work is guided by a framework based on
Singapore's development model and approach to
sustainable development. The CLC Liveable Cities
Framework identifies five key domains or
requirements for liveability and sustainability,
namely Good Governance, Integrated Master Planning,
Environmental Sustainability, a High Quality of Life
and a Competitive Economy.
