as a non-profit organization, the vision of SBF is: "To be
the leading channel for education and culture
From
April to August, 2011, under the leadership of Mr Er
Kwong Wah, a group of like-minded people who have
similar interest and commitment to offer voluntary
services to Bhutan met regularly to explore ways to
establish a non-profit organization with this
altruistic purpose in mind.
After several months of preparation and planning, an
application was made to ACRA in August 2011 for the
registration of SBF.
The Singapore Bhutan Foundation (SBF) was registered
with the following aims and objectives:
To promote greater exchange of information and
networks between Singapore and Bhutanese people –
especially in the education sector.
To promote and strengthen the non-government ties
between Singapore and Bhutan – including increasing
the possibilities of interpersonal contacts between
Singapore and Bhutan.
To be a forum for exchanging information, knowledge
and experience for its members about a wide range of
interests – particularly in education.
To promote cooperation between Bhutan and Singapore
and to increase the countries' knowledge of each
other.
To encourage the exchange of knowledge and
experience, as well as the training of educational
professionals.
To meet these aims and objectives, SBF has organised
or participated in several activities, including the
2012 Chingay Parade (with the People's Association),
community service cum education expeditions to
Bhutan and social gatherings for SBF members. There
are plans to organise conferences/conventions on
Bhutan in the near future. Some of these activities
are featured in the News & Events section.
Expeditions to Bhutan
Among the more significant and meaningful
activities, events and programmes being offered by
the Singapore Bhutan Foundation (SBF) is the
Educational and Community Expeditions to Bhutan for
members as well as students in schools and junior
colleges, polytechnics, universities and ITE (as
institutional members) as part of their Community
Involvement Programme (CIP).
This is in keeping with the vision of SBF to "... be
the leading channel for education and cultural
exchanges between the Republic of Singapore and the
Kingdom of Bhutan."
As such, the main purpose of visiting Bhutan is to
learn more about the country (educational and
cultural) as well to contribute by performing
meaningful community service (workshops sharing,
conduct training, donation of educational materials,
etc).
The main aims our Educational and CIP expeditions
are:
to establish mutually beneficial relationships with
the educational and school leaders and
teachers/lecturers/educators in Bhutan;
to share with and learn from each other (leaders,
educators, students, etc) and to foster positive
exchanges of ideas with the Bhutanese schools and
other educational, cultural and charitable
institutions – especially with regard to the good
practices in teaching/learning, governance,
policies, etc;
to provide a platform and opportunity for members
and Singapore students to bring along useful and
relevant educational materials such as books,
stationery, appliances, etc to donate to the Schools
and other education institutions for the benefits of
the children and students who in need of such
materials and;
to learn about and savour the rich history,
geography and culture heritage of Bhutan as well as
to try to understand the concept of gross national
happiness (GNH) of Bhutan.
